Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is a process of assessing and granting credit (towards a unit/subject) for students, based on their skills, knowledge and experience gain in the workforce and via previous learning.

If you have a high level of experience in your proposed field of study, and believe that you can prove a certain level of sound knowledge and competency in that field, you can have your knowledge assessed, through the RPL process, to provide you with credits against your studies.

Due to the strict nature of the RPL process, we are unable to provide RPL if evidence is not provided. Skills Training Australia offers both funded and full-fee paying students the opportunity to apply for recognition of prior learning.

Please note: there is a fee associated with conducting RPL

For further information regarding the RPL process, please call 1300 656 669.

Credit Transfer

Credit Transfer (CT) is the process of granting a ‘credit’ for a unit/subject on the basis of prior studies. For example, students may have completed the same unit of competency at another institution undertaking another course; this will be recognised if the unit is the same both in terms of title and unit code number.

You must provide a statement of attainment with the completed unit/subject you wish to apply for, for CT. Applications should always be made prior to course commencement, this can be done during the enrolment process.

For further information regarding the CT process, please call 1300 656 669.

USI

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) number is reference number that all students must have/provide when undertaking nationally recognised training. A USI provides access to an online record of the training a student has achieved since 1 January 2015.

Regardless of residency status, if a student is studying in Australia, he/she will require a USI.

If you do not have a USI, you can apply for one on the Unique Student Identifier website
