Course Description
During your 18-24 month study program, Specialist Nursing practitioners will closely guide you through 4 key learning components (25 study units) of engaging and innovative practical classroom activities. Together with 400 hours of professional clinical placement (Acute/Sub Acute, Aged Care, Mental Health) - our student associates are then prepared for registration as Enrolled Nurses with the Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). You will develop an appreciation for evidence-based nursing practice and will strengthen your clinical decision-making and reflective skills and caring behaviours. STA Diploma of Nursing graduates not only achieve a qualification, but develop skills that are both highly transferable, and in demand - across Australia and globally.
Entry Requirements
There is no qualification or educational prerequisites to gain entry into the Diploma of Nursing however the following applies:
Pre-Enrolment Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) English Language Assessment
You must be able to demonstrate that you meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia’s (NMBA) English language skills registration standard as a mandatory requirement for enrolment in this course. This is specified in the Enrolled Nurse Accreditation Standards 2017.
These standards have been updated in July 2020. Prospective students to be admitted to ANMAC accredited Diploma of Nursing program whose primary language is English must sign a declaration confirming this. All other students must provide valid English language test results as specified in the NMBA English Language Standards 2017
Proof of this English language competency can be achieved in two ways:
1. Primary Language Pathway
The applicant's primary language is English and they have undertaken and satisfactorily completed at least six (6) years of primary and secondary education, including at least two (2) years between Years 7 and 12. Countries include Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Canada, South Africa and the United States of America.
2. English Language Test Pathway
Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have achieved the required minimum scores in one of the approved English language tests as specified in the NMBA’s English language skills registration standard prior to acceptance of offer.
IELTS the IELTS (academic module) with a minimum overall score of 7 and a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking).
OET with a minimum score of B in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking).
PTE Academic with a minimum overall score of 65 and a minimum score of 65 in each of the four communicative skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking).
TOEFL iBT with a minimum total score of 94 and the following minimum score in each section of the test 24 for listening, 24 for reading, 27 for writing, and 23 for speaking.
Domestic Students
- All potential students must attend a compulsory information session.
- You will also need a successful pass of the LLN test (Language, Literacy & Numeracy), we use VetAssess.
- Students wishing to apply for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan must be assessed for academic suitability to undertake a high level VET qualification. This academic assessment is in addition to any entry requirements that may be required for the specific course a student wishes to undertake. - VET student loans will not be approved for students who do not meet eligibility requirements
- A VET student loan gives rise to a HELP debt that continues to be a debt due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid

Structure
- Face to face on campus training, 9.00am – 4.00pm.
- 2 days per week for 2 years (8 terms at Knox or CBD campus)
- 3 days per week for 18 months (6 terms at CBD only)

Fees
Domestic Students
- Skills First Funded Fee for the course is *$9,300.
*Skills Training Australia may use both State and Federal funding, eligibility criteria does apply - The Full Fee for the course is $24,000

Placement
- There is 400 hours (10 weeks) of mandatory clinical placement.
- This is delivered in 2-3 week blocks Mon – Fri (some weekend shifts available).
- All placements are arranged by Skills Training Australia.
