 The Certificate III in Health Services Assistance qualifies you to provide assistance to health professionals with services to clients and patients. While you won’t actually be delivering direct care to clients, a Health Services Assistance role will see you being in direct client contact. You will be qualified to undertake positions such as assistant in nursing, nursing support worker, patient service attendant and orderly.

Skills Training Australia's Certificate III in Health Services Assistance has been developed in consultation with industry professionals, and is delivered by experienced nursing care trainers. This program can be delivered in one of our classroom programs at our Knox Campus in Melbourne's East or nationally at employer sites.

There are no qualification or educational prerequisites to gain entry into the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance.
 
Is this course right for you?
The Certificate III in Health Services Assistance is the entry level qualification into the hospital and health care environment. This qualification will suit any individual who desires to work as a Health Services Assistant (HSA). These workers:
• Carry out activities to maintain personal care and/or other activities of daily living for people in a direct care environment
• Carry out activities related to individualised care plans
• Provide services and support to nursing staff, patient movement, or cleaning and food services.
• Other roles may include operating theatre support and assisting in nursing work in acute care
 
You need to be compassionate, empathetic, and hard working.
The requirements for care are different for each patient and can change with time. Some people need a little bit of help, while others rely on you to provide more services for their personal needs.
There are many positive aspects to this role, and it also offers some challenging aspects. Knowing both will help you make an informed decision about whether this is the right career path for you.
 
Police Check and Working with Children Checks
In most cases, it will be a requirement of your placement provider that you undertake a Police Check and a Working with Children Check. Both checks generally need to be clear to allow you to go on placement. Where a student has been identified as having a disclosable outcome, it is up to the student to contact the Training Manager should they wish to disclose the outcome and discuss.
 
Placement is a mandatory requirement of all of our courses and failure to undertake placement will result in not passing the course. Obtaining these checks, and any cost associated with applying for them, is your responsibility. They need to be current and must be obtained prior to your first day of placement - they will need to be sighted by your placement supervisor and/or the manager you are reporting to.

Course Structure

To obtain your Certificate III in Health Services Assistance, you must complete 15 units of competency, and be competent in the practical delivery of the course, obtained over 160hrs of practical placement.

Delivery Models

Skills Training Australia offer a number of different delivery models to assist students and businesses in achieving their desired outcomes. We recognise that all individuals learn in different ways, so we have designed various models to cater for the needs of the industry. Skills Training offer the following learning models for the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance:

Classroom Program - this model is delivered within a classroom setting, incorporating skills assessments within our Practical Lab rooms. This program will be delivered 1 day per week for 30 weeks including three weeks of practical placement.

On-the-job training / Traineeships - This program is designed to work with your current Health Care employer. This will allow you to have the program delivered to you in a supported work environment. A training plan will be created, in conjunction with you and your employer, highlighting the course schedule and requirements. You MUST be already employed in the industry and meet traineeship requirements to be eligible for this model. The timeframe for completion of the program will be 3 terms.

Delivery Locations

The qualification can be delivered at a Skills Training Australia campus or at your place of employment.

Work Placement

A minimum of 120 hours of work placement is required for the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance with Skills Training Australia. Placement needs to be undertaken in an acute setting, and must be signed off by a workplace supervisor/mentor. Placement is traditionally unpaid.

If you are employed and undertaking a traineeship, work placement can be negotiated as part of your normal working duties.This must be approved by your employer and will be monitored by your Skills Training Australia Trainer and Assessor.

Tuition Information

All of our quoted costs for the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance HLT33115 include materials, resources, enrolment costs, and placement. The only additional cost will be for your Police Check and Working with Children Check, which you will need to apply for separately prior to going on placement.
